I lived through this illness with a friend who I’m happy to say like Robin is ok now.
It was fascinating to get the story from someone else especially when it is told in
such an entertaining way.
Thanks, Robin, and great that you like my friend are almost back to where you were health-wise.

On the surface, I thought this book would be depressing and a short sob story but ultimately it was a beautiful, witty, and extremely human soul-felt book.

Robin Sheppard’s account of how the dreadful Guillain-Barre syndrome reduced a successful entrepreneur to total paralysis would be compelling enough on its own but his slow, partial recovery and his eventual return to dizzy heights in the hotel business are inspirational.

How to take on an agonising, melancholic, impasse in your life and laugh right back at it. All in one easy read. Well I say easy, but that only describes the writing style; the subject matter is far from easy and hard to comprehend, such is the pathos. Yet crafted in a brisk dark humoured way. Essential reading for anyone suffering an acute illness or affected by a loved one going through tough times.
For readers who are interested in learning more about GBS and the human experience of overcoming challenges, “A Solitary Confinement” provides a compelling and enlightening narrative. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.
